The Fuller School of Medicine was named based on the works of Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller in the field of Medicine. Dr. Fuller was one of the pioneers in the field of Alzheimer's dementia disease and psychopathology.

In 1904, Dr. Fuller was selected to work with Dr. Alzheimer as a neuropathologist doing anatomical and histological preparations followed by microscopic examination of the resulting brain samples. In 1912, Dr. Fuller translated Alzheimer’s original case in English for the first time, a 51-year-old woman, including one Fuller himself had discovered. These early descriptions mention the plaques, “basket-like” appearance of ganglion cells, and alterations of the neurofibrils, which are the plaques and tangles we cite today as characteristic of Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Fuller pioneered advanced the study of many other neurodegenerative diseases, including schizophrenia and manic depression.

Cornwall's medical school curriculum is based on the core competencies that are essential for the successful practice of medicine:

Patient Care

Professionalism

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

Scientific & Medical Knowledge

Lifelong Learning, Scholarship & Collaboration

Social & Community Context of Healthcare

These core competencies are consistent with the ACGME competencies for residency programs in the United States and the Can Med competencies for residencies in Canada.

We view our medical students as the next generation of medical leaders. This year we have devoted a great deal of thought to our students and our educational programs. Among the new initiatives is a rethinking and revision of the curriculum as well as modes of teaching and learning.

DXR Clinicians  provides Virtual patient software for teaching and evaluating the clinical reasoning skills of medical students on the case study approach. This ties into our philosophy of problem-based interactive learning. Clinician cases challenge medical students to apply knowledge as they reason through a patient problem, from assessment and data collection to hypothesis development, diagnosis and treatment. Students gain experience with a variety of patient problems and faculty gain unparalleled insight into strengths and weaknesses in clinical reasoning skills.

BioDigital has embedded 3D anatomy models for students to increase their overall understanding of the human body and diseases. This tool is used by leaders in medical education such as John Hopkins, School of Medicine and Imperial College London. We integrate this tool in our delivery to enhance students learning experience for anatomy and disease as well as surgical applications.

Lecturio provides supplemental educations and resource material for our medical students.  Lecturio provides the content and digital platform to enable learning-science-based medical education delivery. Aids students preparing for MCAT, USMLE step 1 & 2 and COMPLEX  level 1 and 2. Lecturio supports the effective practice of clinical reasoning and decision-making skills with over 60 realistic scenarios across various care settings and clinical specialties.  Students automatically create a constant stream of activity and performance data by watching videos and answering recall questions and see weak areas.
